Hanging wallpaper in a challenging room
This room is a sheetrocked over plaster in a third floor attic to be wallpapered |
New sheetrock repairs
The sheetrocker never finished around the windiws or corners. I had to finish the work I also had to repair holes mistakenly left for the electrician |
Repairs
I custom cut a good quality paper tape around all the windows for a good long lasting sheetrock repair |
Finishing the sheetrock repair
I used hot mud for the coat under the tape and joint compound for a topping for quality sheetrock repair |
bellied corners
The corners also needed two more applications of joint compound to make a level surface |
Sanding new sheetrock repairs
I use a hand sander attached to a shop vac to prevent any airborne dust from going through your home |
Clean the newly sanded sheetrock repairs
This Wooster " Dust Eater " cleans any dust left on the walls that may prevent the primer from achiving a good bond to the sheetrock |
Dust Eater
I always dust off all surfaces for a good bond to the sheetrock. Nothing sticks to sanding dust. |
Keep the "Dust Eater" clean
every few square feet you have to clean the "Dust Eater" off. I like to vacuume it clean. |

Hiding Crooked Corners
You'll see later on that some wallpaper really does hide a multitude of sin, depending on the wallpaper used, the pattern and sheen |
Crooked corners
Bad corners are more visible after priming for wallcovering |
Starting the paperhanging
After using a lazer level to get my best straight lines. I want to hang this wallpaper with no mismatches. I start at the top and work down. |
Wallpaper Matching
I place each piece separately (using the correct adhesive ) to prevent gapping at the corner joins.
Wallpaper Matching
My customer wanted the vines in the wallpaper to match up in both directions, a nice challange |
Up side down Wallpaper matching
I am overlapping using the correct adhesive, again to prevent gapping at inside corners. I had to start paperhanging the gable areas at the bottom of the angled walls to keep the pattern correct |

I used joint compound where the transition to the angled gable walls to hide the wallpaper underneath |

I covered luan with wallpaper to be put over the holes to the crawl spaces |
